EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK AT THE COLLECTOR’S EDITION

We just announced the Collector’s Edition of One Piece Burning Blood at Jump Festa in Tokyo for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One! The Marineford Edition is truly a beautiful ode to the Marineford Arc from the original ONE PIECE story. We’ve really

worked hard on making this a one of a kind package. Let’s discover what you’ll be able to find inside.

The Game
No surprise here: One Piece Burning Blood’s physical copy will be included in the Collector’s Edition :).
The Artbook
One Piece: Burning Blood has a LOT of characters. We’re not done revealing the roster yet, but rest assured the game is packed with playable fighters and support characters. Look forward to a beautiful 100 pages 170 by 240mm artbook with a gloss laminated softcover, inserted into an individual cello, just like a manga. If you’re a fan, you’ll love flipping through it. And who doesn’t love the smell of a new book?
The Figures
Last but not least: we’ve included not one but TWO figures in this edition, featuring the emblematic and legendary Whitebeard. Created and manufactured by BANPRESTO, the first one is a 19,5cm high figure of Edward Newgate aka Whitebeard, standing with his Bisento, a double-edged long sword with a thick truncated blade similar to a spear. The second figure (MARINEFORD ARC SPOILER ALERT!) represents Whitebeard’s grave, painstakingly reproduced to be 100% accurate. His coat hangs on the cross, as if blowing in the wind, but can also be put on the man's shoulders. This two-for-one figure pack is an exclusive bundle and an incredible memento of The Strongest Man in the World. It's actually never been sold together in Japan! You had to play the UFO catch machine and win each of them separately! The coloring for the Marineford Edition is brand new too.

Lost Ark: First Look at the Main Story

Hello Lost Ark fans, we meet again! About a month ago, we had confirmation that Smilegate was hiring for specific positions for their Lost Ark development team, which included Associate UI Artist, UI/UX Lighting Artist, and Software Engineer, each with their own respective requirements. In one of their job listings, we get to see a small glimpse of what the main story behind Lost Ark might be, as taken directly from the post:
“The whole world is in chaos from the attack of Kazeros’ demon army, as Kazeros opens the Chaos Gate with his six legions to invade the human world. Like a legend that exists in myths, the world has become a place where there are no heroes and everyone has forgotten about the Ark that defeated the demons in the past. Now, the player must venture the vast world of the Lost Ark to gather the pieces and go against the demon army. The one force that can stand up against the demons—The Lost Ark.”

So it seems evidently clear that the players of Lost Ark will most definitely have a vast demon army invading from a Chaos gate to face in the long run. The six various legions of demons are led by what seems is going to be the main antagonist of the game, Kazeros. To be honest, this sounds reminiscent of the Burning Legion from the Warcraft series or even the demons of hell from the Diablo series. And that’s not a bad thing whatsoever! At its core, any demon legion feels almost necessary to include as a worthy foe in a fantasy-style RPG as epic as Lost Ark is pushing to be. However, the question arises, what is the intent behind Kazeros’ demon army? To simply conquer or is their more behind this crucial antagonist? This is wishful thinking, but it will be refreshing to see some sort of unique character development that hasn’t been done before with a demon lord type character.
As for the Lost Ark itself, what exactly is it? It is clearly stated that it is the one force that can stand up to the demon army, as it already had in past events within the story. However it is still unclear what it actually is or does. Is it an artifact that simply has the power to expel demons or maybe even a special device that has the ability to close the Chaos Gate?
Knowing that there will be 18 different classes to choose from, each with their own unique back stories and origins, it is clear that at its core, the game will push the player to find the missing pieces of whatever the Lost Ark may be. At the same time, will the choice of a particular character have an impact in the story? As seen in other RPGs such as Guild Wars 2 and Black Desert Online, the characters you begin with have different paths and can influence the story in various ways. This would absolutely add an incredible level of diversity to the story overall. In the end, regardless of which class the player decides to select, it’s clear that it will be a time for heroes to rise again and face the invasion of Kazeros and his immeasurable demon army with the power of the Lost Ark.

Overwatch Glitch Lets Players Explore the Next Level in Nepal Map

In Overwatch, players have been able to end up in some very interesting places with abilities like Reaper's Shadow Step and Widowmaker's Grappling Hook. However, none of them are quite as interesting as where two Mercy players ended up after glitching their way through Nepal.

Nepal consists of several distinct stages played one after the other, but all of these are loaded in at the same time. YouTube user Hulkman503 posted a video showing how to get from one area to the other in the middle of a match. See it for yourself below (via Eurogamer).

One of the two players notes that everything is loaded, including health packs scattered around the map. He notes that you can't interact with the Control Points.
"Doing this is useless unless you do..." the player started. "No, never mind. Don't listen to me rambling. It's completely useless."
However, when you're down there, there are some interesting things you can do. You can change your character at the starting base, and the player notes that Symmetra's Ultimate can be used to teleport the entire team down there. This doesn't actually help them, but it sounds pretty funny.
The two players mention that they've tried glitching other maps in similar ways, but none of them have produced results like Nepal. They expect Blizzard will eventually patch the game to prevent this glitch.

Nights of Azure PS4 2016 /4/01

Nights of Azure Review – Yoru no Nai Kuni (PS4 Import)

I was pleasantly surprised by Gust and Koei Tecmo’s PS4 action RPGNights of Azure.
Nights of Azure looks good and plays smoothly in all situations, with frame rate drops coming only on rare occasion. Gameplay never got bogged down by performance issues and what’s more, the action was always fun to watch during my playthrough. Dark blues and purples work well to keep the nighttime theme strong and, as a bonus, give great backdrop for all the fancy spell effects.
Sad reality is that Gust doesn’t have a ton of budget to put into these games, so you’ll see its imperfections fairly often. Whenever characters interact, you’ll see graphics overlap and clip and otherwise look goofy. It’s forgivable and understandable, but that doesn’t mean unnoticeable.
With a couple of standout tracks, the music delivers. In battle, chilling at the hotel, or anything in between, the audio was always good. Even the vocal theme in Underwearland worked somehow.
Nights of Azure‘s core plot is basic, but the character-focused side of the story earns credit for doing something less than common in JRPGs: it tells a love story between homosexual characters who aren’t stereotyped to the moon and back. A lot of games and anime have “accidental” half-naked run-ins, awkward situations, games of grab-boob, or unrequited love between women, but Nights of Azure goes the genuine route and ends up much stronger for it. We see the romance between Arnice and Lilysse unfold step-by-step, and by the end, we’re cheering for everything to work out for them. The two laugh together, fear together, and share a love the audience can take seriously, even if a lot of other anime tropes adorn Nights of Azure.
homosexuality ZOMGsploited all over the place, it’s sometimes hard to find any place on screen not occupied by a giant boob. The hugeness isn’t the only funny thing, but the physics. Watch them some time — I mean really stare at them, like I did. They don’t just move while the girls breathe (as seen in Vanillaware games), but they move as if they’re balloons housing mice. It’s like there’s an animal moving around, trying to escape.
And since this is published by Koei Tecmo, there had to be stripping involved, right? In order to level up, Arnice has to dress down into the tattered remains of lingerie. Why? Because “it’s just us girls here,” in the words of our Lilysse-lookalike spirit hostess.

Game Guide 101: Types Of 3D Games

Gaming experience has never been as rich and vivid as it is today. From 2D to 3D, the evolution of gaming technology makes it popular not only among teens but also among adults alike. So what makes 3D games attractive not only to gamers but also to the general population?
Sense of Immersion
The advancements in technology resulted in 3D where the features allow gamers to experience realism resulting to better gaming experience. This is due to the fact that games that are made in 3D caters to the human senses such as the senses of sound, sight and touch. Sports games are quite popular since these have more activities, and the gamers do the action live especially for games developed for Wii.
Types of 3D Games
One of the popular 3D games genres is sports since most players are into extreme sports. Sports such as basketball or baseball allows gamers to experience the actual play without being physically in the field. Aside from sports, shooting games are also popular. In shooting games, it usually opens with a mission that allows players to catch bad guys or other targets and advance in the gameplay. These games usually have realistic locations allowing for a more immersed gaming experience.
Mental games are also becoming popular not only for avid gamers but also for use in many educational institutions. Updated versions of many mental game plays include 3D versions where depth and dimension are added to help make the game lifelike.
For people who love racing, racing games are also fast dominating the 3D world. Many are interested with these types of games because of the exciting graphics as well as the thrill of winning the race(s). Aside from car racing, one would also encounter animal racing, boats and even planes.
Simulation games have also been gaining popularity among players. Simulations allow players to assume a character or a role and finish their missions. Examples of these can be starting their own farm, becoming a crime boss or even having a virtual family.

Video Games - The Perfect Escape?

Why oh why did you say yes to that last shandy? The kebab seemed like a good idea but your mouth now resembles the inner lining of Phil Jupiter's underpants. And to top it all off, you're stuck in a lava filled dungeon and some b*****d has kidnapped your princess. Where did your life go so horribly wrong?
I've got news for you, it's much, much worse. It's not that you're hungover playing Super Mario Brothers, it's that you spend your life "working" at a computer located in a sterile office surrounded by drones. Your only escape? A Friday night binge drinking session down in Clapham, tonsil tennis with a rather suspect femme fatale and bouncing around 8-bit levels crushing the skulls of Goombas with your immense chubby Italian plumber girth the next morning (she didn't come home with you).
Computer games started out as something completely innocent. I remember my cousins having a version of Pong that despite being an absolute nightmare to plug into the telly, was good fun for ten minutes. Bouncing the ball around with the paddles was hardly Wimbledon. What was, was the 8-bit version of the AELTC's prestige tournament which was one of the first games I played on the Master System. Still to this day the game mesmerises me, with added career mode, I can't help but feel I'm there on Centre Court. Especially as I couldn't play tennis for toffee.
These days, games such as the Grand Theft Auto and Halo franchises take escapism to whole new levels, allowing you to explore entire cities and indulge your wildest fantasies whilst piping hordes of bad guys. There's a magazine on my desk right now emblazoned with the word "hero", if only. And whilst escapism is almost at its absolute peak (barring virtual reality), it started way back in the 80s and had as much of an impact then as it does now.
Adult life fundamentally, hasn't changed much in the last thirty years. Despite numerous advances in technology, supposedly to make life easier, for most of us it's the usual 9 to 5. Slaving away to line someone else's pockets only to come home at some ungodly hour completely exhausted. Eat your dinner, stick on the telly, sleep, repeat. Rather crudely, I hypothesise life requires five different needs: achievement; relaxation; emulation; competition and belonging. At the moment, sitting here in a non-descript office I feel tense, bored, lonely and as if this is just another day to kill on a road that is seemingly going nowhere. No need is being fulfilled, I want to be at home playing video games.
Achievement is the easy one. Those who are successful in life and who feel they are living a good life can point back to a string of achievements. Whether it's continual progression through the ranks at work, bringing up offspring or jumping out of a plane, nothing beats feeling a sense of achievement. For those starved of such events, video games offer up an easy alternative and its impact is almost immediate. Going back to early arcade games such as Pac-Man and Asteroids, you're instantly rewarded with level progression and score accumulation (sometimes to reach the feted leader board). Home entertainment systems such as the ZX Spectrum brought games like Manic Miner to the fore. This rise raises the other point that these needs don't just relate to adult life but to children as well. For kids growing up, a sense of achievement can be gained from doing well at school, well at Physical Education, being praised for good attendance etc... How often would this really happen? Sometimes at primary school, I would feel a greater sense of accomplishment after nailing a few levels of Sonic than at anything I'd done during the day. With the xbox360 console, Microsoft brought the "Achievement" points system based on unlocking hidden secrets or even just by completing levels. Why did they do this? We all love rewards, even more so when they're obvious. As unnecessary as this development was, it adds another level of achievement to the subtle one already existing.
This brings me to the next "need" - relaxation. Or should I say, Relaxation through detachment. There is no point in me going home to play a computer game where the protagonist is a Customer Service advisor who has to answer the phone and respond to emails all day. They say that during lunchtime it's advisable to have lunch outside of the office, so that your mind is taken off work and relaxed accordingly. Video games work on the same principal as in they can take you out of work, out of your home life and into something much more wondrous. The aforementioned Super Mario Bros is a great example. I believe it's the first true example of an ethereal world where you can explore and unlock hidden rewards at whim. Earlier consoles and computers had games containing hidden levels given, but the graphics and memory available pre-1985 struggled to do anything on this scale. Throw in a hero story where you've got to rescue a princess and you've got the whole package. I could talk about detachment all day long but the upshot is that video games take you to another world at the flick of a button where you can easily forget what your life is really about.
As I mentioned previously, I was bog awful at Tennis when I was a kid. Someone who was not awful at tennis was Stefan Edberg. Although Wimbledon on the MS was licensed, it contained no real players' names. But my word, did one of the characters look like the Swedish maestro himself. When you're growing up, role models are important. That seems like a rather obvious thing to say but how many kids lack the proper role models in everyday life? We look up to people and we want to emulate them. We see them achieve great things and we want to achieve them ourselves. When we can't do something, video games (especially sports titles) are an easy way of emulating our heroes. I played World Cup Italia 90 on the Mega Drive way more than I should have purely because it was the only way of recreating the tournament that I had available. Emulation even boils down to just wanting to be said Italian plumber hero (one was also rather useless with the ladies) or a spiky blue hedgehog thwarting an evil genius.
Emulation follows on to competition. There is nothing like beating a game. All that coding and you've still beaten the CPU. Have that Edberg. It's also great to prove you're the best at the something, that you're better than your peers. At work, I have few peers simply due to the mediocrity of my work. Do I want to be better than them? The feeling is hardly tangible. Competition is good for the human spirit. Constantly being challenged is how people get better and successful people thrive on it. The rewards are sometimes obvious, a big trophy, a big pay rise - but sometimes they're not. Video games offer competition on all levels. Beat the CPU, beat your friends, beat the world. Video games offer a challenge when life falls on its backside. Want an arena to prove you're better than your mates? Hold a Days of Thunder on the NES competition (not all were impressed... ). Multiplayer games existed in abundance from the days of Pong and now video game tournaments have evolved into a multi-million dollar industry of their own.
That brings me to my final point - belonging. Sega or Nintendo? If you're into retro gaming that question alone is probably stirring something inside you. Why? Because choosing a console isn't just about choosing a machine to play with, it's about choosing a gang, a way of life that's got be better than its counterpart. Kids and adults alike feel segregation on a daily basis. I was lucky at school as I had good friends with whom I still socialise with to this day. Others were not so lucky. When you move into the professional world it's only natural that you want to work for a company where you belong. In your personal life, it's only natural to want to live somewhere in a home with people you love and where you feel you belong. Even before online gaming with its vast communities and friendship came into existence, simply by saying in the playground whether you were a Mega Drive or SNES guy started positive chat about Sonic or Mario alike. They weren't just consoles, it was who you were.

If you've seen Guillermo del Toro talk, you know that he actually knows games. Not content with just parroting Pac-Man or Doomreferences, del Toro will cite Shadow of the Colossus and Left 4 Dead and numerous others as the games that interest him. While he may not know games (which is where developer Volition steps in), at least he knows distinct style and atmosphere (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, etc). Plus, the simple title implies that it will thematically be linked to del Toro's upcoming adaptation of At The Mountains of Madness. A crazy Lovecraftian horror game from the guy behind Pan's Labyrinth and the fellows behind Red Faction? 2013 will be a heck of a long wait.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts 3
Cloaked in rumor and speculation, little is actually known about Square Enix's next installment to the Kingdom Hearts series. Lead director, Tetsuya Nomura has earlier gone on record to indicate due to a busy production schedule, "the opportunity has not come yet", citing the current Kingdom Hearts 3DS and Final Fantasy Versus projects. Consequently, its release date is fuzzy at best, with estimates ranging from a highly optimistic "late 2011" to a more realistic "early 2013." Also unclear is whether or not KH3's tech specs will rise to meet the next generation of consoles and mobile systems, or will be moderated for a more general release. What we hope for is that this title will feature dramatic enhancements and expansions to the current suite of action-based role-playing gameplay and storytelling in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, and maybe an appearance from some Pixar characters.

Metal Gear Solid Rising

Metal Gear Solid Rising
Years ago, we used to bemoan the very presence of Raiden. But thanks to a slick appearance in Metal Gear Solid 4, Raiden has moved from a wannabe annoying sidekick to a sort of badass Snake Eyes-from-GI-Joe-style super ninja for the Kojima-verse. Unlike the other "traditional" Metal Gear Solid titles, which were "tactical espionage" games, Rising looks like it uses the same sort of stealth mechanics as Team Ninja's Ninja Gaiden. That is, instead of sneaking around and using boxes, you simply have Raiden run in and cut fools faster than they can spot him. While some of us hope for a return to a traditional MGS game, a few of us are actually looking forward to seeing Kojima and his pals tackle a pure ninja action game.

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium Online

Warhammer MMO
Not to be confused with Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, this is the 40K universe we're talking about here. You know, the one that those excellent Dawn of War games revolve around. While details are scarce, the idea of a 40K MMO from the guys behind Darksiders is a damn intriguing one for us to keep an eye out for come 2012. Hopefully, when it comes out, this catches and builds on traction that its fantasy cousin, which itself was an excellent MMO in its own right, did. Well, really, we just want to mess around as Chaos Marines in an MMO.

Final Fantasy Versus 8

Final Fantasy Versus XIII
This often-quoted "fantasy that's based in reality," still hasn't materialized as far concrete details are concerned, but there's still no denying that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is one of the most anticipated RPGs of, well, whenever it comes out. Originally announced in 2006 as the second title in the Fabula Nova Crystallis, a trilogy of games all woven within the world presented in FFXIII, Versus XIII is still a big unknown. Hopefully, this long awaited project, helmed by Tetsuya Nomura, creator of the venerable Kingdom Hearts series, will finally surface with new information at the upcoming Fabula Nova Crystallis event to unravel Square Enix's opaque veil of secrecy.

Tomonobu Itagaki, best known for heading up the Dead or Aliveand Ninja Gaiden franchises at Tecmo, has been relatively quiet since leaving to start independent studio Valhalla. But the first announced game from his new team got many around here excited for the way it blends melee attacks with gun combat. Or the way it looks to, at least -- we've only seen a trailer thus far, and it seems to have slick genre-blending in there, but we don't know how it all fits together just yet.
